Compass NYC proved to be a success- one element that we think is important to touch on, is that shoe shows are evolving from being about market segmentation and gender and more about branding. If you have a cool strong message along with product that is innovative and intentional you can sit together on the same trade show floor. When you think of Berlin, what comes to your mind? Is it cutting edge design and fashion, or maybe hot night clubs and captivating flims?

Well Berlin is at the top of its game and 80%20 is getting into the mix. We'll be at the Bread and Butter Trade Show in Berlin at the Airport Berlin-Tempelhof from January 20 - 22nd. 80%20 will be amongst over 120 different forward lifestyle brands this year.

Berlin, in our opinion, is the best place to host such an innovative and exciting show like Bread & Butter. The city is the center of modern and industrial design, and even won the UNESCO "City of Design" award this year. Everything changes and evolves so quickly in Berlin and it is an amazing place to get inspired by innovation and creativity.

After Bread & Butter, check out Berlin's Fashion Week Jan. 20-23 where there will be many gems and tons of eye candy!

Who says you can't bring a little New York to the mid-west? Cleveland.com showcases Steve Silver, owner of Cleveland Ohio boutiques- Next Coventry and Next Beachwood Place who is doing exactly that. Along with his partner, Robert Rosenthal, they completely transformed the stores from selling mostly preppy clothes for an older clientele to selling boutique-style clothing and accessory geared to the fashion forward crowd. Their boutiques have been a part of bringing Cleveland to its 'up-and-coming" status. They are always on top of the latest trends, and Steve says, "I'll be honest. I know retailers all over the country, and I've found the Cleveland market to be very accepting and very fast." There's a shout out in this article by Cleveland.com about 80%20! We think he's doing amazing things out in the Mid-West and we are very proud to be part of his mix.

I've returned from my whirlwind "China trip" and finally adjusted back into the New York life ! The pace has been so fast I can hardly keep my 80%20's on...kidding! If you've been following, you know I spent the time in China working hard on my new Ce Ce Chin Collection as well as 80%20. I also stepped in to the Hong Kong post modern "Land of Oz"- so much to look at and explore.

The inspiration from the fashion scene in HK (the most international retail I have even seen- sorry guys, more vast than Tokyo or Europe) easily helped me transition right into free flowing sketching in my design room China.

Literally every part of making a shoe happens in that workspace. From design, to sample making, down to the fittings on actual feet! This process is what keeps me moving forward and enriched as a designer.

The soundtrack to my travels in Hong Kong and China so far has been the Seattle based, Kinsky (http://www.myspace.com/kinskispace). They're on the Sub Pop label, which I have not heard of in a long time! Sub Pop, who first signed Nirvana, MudHoney and Soundgarden back in the day, is forever embedded in my mind as the record label brand of 90s grunge "cool”.

Kinsky is virtually lyric-less, providing and fueling progressive "noise". I first discovered this band while witnessing the performance art duo, Robbinschild at the New Museum on Bowery, in New York City last December. I love their use of monochromatic color, landscape contrast, dance and mood.

I’m off on the road once again this time heading to China! I’ve been traveling to Hong Kong on an "almost quarterly" basis for over 10 years and since 80%20's beginning, almost 5 years ago! While the city is now quite familiar to me, Hong Kong never fails to make a fresh fashion impression.

Leading brands (both big and small) boast stately flagship stores and hold back no detail. Hong Kong is much like New York and London combined, but with way more Chinese people. Cantonese often sounds like harsh criticisms and shouting, but then peppered with English slang like "bloody", "cheeky bastard" and "naf". For those uninitiated to Hong Kong's pulse, watch Chungking Express, one of Wong Kar Wai's first movies to receive acclaim in the US. Although this movie is from the 1990s, it captures the ever-present heat, whimsy and charge of the city.

Anthropologie: Ruffian

Last night was magic. Anthropologie at Rockefeller Center debuted their collaboration with the design house Ruffian. The hand seamed eyelet lace tights and pastel Macaroons made us swoon. Ce Ce came wearing the soon to be legendary, Celeste shoes- (exclusively sold at Anthropologie) look for it in stores the beginning of November.

We ran into our wicked smart designer and friend Rebecca Turbow. The legendary Shelly Bromfield reminded us that love and intention make the world a much better place, including the world of fashion. The evening of arsenic and lace did not stop there; we were whisked away with the brilliant minds behind Anthropologie to the after party at The Standard Hotel’s stunning new rooftop venue-The Boom Boom Room. The dynamic gold, mirrored, and cream silk interiors gave kisses to the panoramic views of NYC. The scene was fit for Cinderella- and perfect for a modern love story.

Recently Ce Ce Chin our Designer and Creative Director took a trip to Milan Italy to attend MICAM, (very sexy footwear show). Spending time with 80%20’s Italian team was blast- and seeing the brand growing on a global level is of course fabulous. Anthropologie: Man Shops Globe

Anthropologie held a gala at it’s flagship in NYC on Tuesday to celebrate the premier of Man Shops Globe, a Sundance Channel documentary series following the buyer-at-large, Keith Johnson as he shops around the world for Anthropologie. We love parties. But we really love parties that debut something as cool as this show. Man Shops Globe gives you the inside scoop- watch Keith as he sources products from all over the world and get a first hand look at how he designs specialty items exclusively for Anthropologie. The store looked incredible- lit in a rich red hue; the displays were innovative and exquisite- true to Anthropologie’s signature. We rubbed elbows with Celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch and got to shop a little too! Man Shops Globe debuts on the Sundance Channel October 7 and continues every Wednesday at 10pm.
